American rapper, Kanye West has formally filed a petition to change his name from his moniker Kanye Omari West to just Ye, with no middle name or last name, according to Los Angeles Superior Court documents obtained by AP.
In the documents which were dated August 11 West, cited ”personal reasons” for the change. A judge must approve before the petition before it becomes official.
He had explained the change in a radio interview two years ago, saying: “I believe ‘ye’ is the most commonly used word in the Bible, and in the Bible it means you. So I’m you, I’m us, it’s us.”
According to the artiste, his name “went from Kanye, which means the only one, to just Ye – just being a reflection of our good, our bad, our confused, everything.”
Ye was the title of the studio album he released in 2019.
The news of West’s name change comes days before the 44-year-old is expected to release his 10th album Donda, named after his late mother.
