Madam Magret Darko, head of the Suhum Municipality, has reported that the rate of adolescent pregnancies is rising despite attempts by the government and non-governmental organizations to curb the issue.

According to her, in the Suhum Municipality of the Eastern Region, the primary cause of teenage pregnancies is young girls’ love of indomie and mobile money (MoMo).

This is according to recent research conducted by the Ghana Health Service, the Social Welfare, and other Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs).

The Suhum Millennium Cultural Encyclopedia claims as much. The MCE went on to say that young women would give in to sex “if a guy could just purchase indomie for them at night and send a token to their MoMo more regularly.”

The purpose of the research was to identify the negative impacts of COVID on young women and girls during the last two years and provide ways to mitigate such effects.
