On Friday night, a tragic accident occurred near Bono Manso, a town located on the Techiman-Kintampo Highway in the Bono East Region. Reports indicate that five individuals lost their lives as they were burnt to ashes in the incident.
According to eyewitnesses, a passenger bus was traveling at a high speed towards Techiman from the Kintampo direction. Tragically, it collided head-on with a trailer transporting beverages, suspected to be alcoholic, heading in the opposite direction. The collision ignited a fire that quickly engulfed both vehicles, leading to the destruction of the bus and the trailer.
While the police have confirmed the deaths of five individuals—three from the bus and two from the trailer, including the driver—eyewitness testimonies suggest that the actual number of casualties could be higher.
Eyewitnesses informed Adom News’ Wiafe Akenten that the bus was attempting to overtake another vehicle when the accident occurred. The collision resulted in a massive explosion, causing both vehicles to be consumed by fire. They also claimed that there were numerous passengers onboard the bus at the time of the incident.
Nabilla Francis Sayuub, the Assemblyman for the Bono Manso Electoral Area, spoke from the accident site and stated that he received information about the tragedy late on Friday night. He mentioned that only a few passengers, approximately four individuals, were rescued. However, he was uncertain about the origin and destination of the bus.
Joseph Kwasi Mensah, the Member of Parliament for Nkoranza North, also visited the scene of the accident. He expressed that he had been informed about the possibility of around 30 people being burnt to ashes. Mensah appealed to drivers to exercise caution, avoid speeding, and prioritize the preservation of lives.
