Most Ghanaians who live in Accra have been saying that “Life in Accra is not easy”. Rural-urban migration has become a challenge for the country for a very long time. Some youths in rural communities travelled to Accra without having any family members there. In view of this, they sleep under overheads and even struggle to get their daily bread.
Some are introduced to armed robbery, prostitution, stealing among other immoral activities. But the young in your picture was introduced to LGBTQ+ when life became very difficult for him. According to him, his name is Yawson. Speaking to a journalist on how he became gay, he said that he travelled from his village to Accra in search of a job but for three days he was not getting any job to do.
According to him, he was sleeping in front of people’s kiosks at Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Accra. So one day, a man approached him and said, “I have been seeing you sleeping at this place always. What is the problem?”. So he answered him and said that he came to Accra looking for a job but has not been able to get any.
The man told him that he can come and stay with him while he search for a job for him. Yawson said that he stayed in this man’s house for three weeks but the job he promised him was not coming. He used to clean this man’s house, wash his clothes and cook for him.
So one night, this man called him and said that he should come and scratch his back for him. In the process of doing this, the man told him that he is gay and that is the job he was talking about. So Yawson told him that he is afraid because he hasn’t done some before. The man told him that it will not create any problem for him but blood came out on the first day. According to Yawson, he was 17 years by then.
The man then gave him some medicine drink and he also gave him some ointments to use. So from that day onwards, they became gay partners.
