An expert has stated that proper use of mobile phones can prevent vehicular accidents in the country.
The Head of Network at Vodafone, Ebenezer Siebu, made this observation during an interview with Onua TV. He explained that institutions in the country are already benefiting from the technology.
As the world marks the 50th anniversary of mobile telephone communications, Onua TV wanted to know how mobile phones have impacted lives and businesses since its inception.
Mr. Siebu clarified that most accidents on major roads are caused by speeding, and that mobile phones can be utilized to reduce such incidents. He noted that Vodafone uses tracking systems in all their vehicles to monitor speeding in real-time.
This enables them to prompt drivers to limit their speed, as well as to enforce journey management policies. By leveraging these solutions internally, Vodafone has been able to reduce accidents involving their vehicles.
According to Mr. Siebu, road safety experts have identified speeding as a significant cause of accidents in the country. However, mobile tracking systems can minimize such incidents by psychologically prompting drivers to modify their behavior towards desirable outcomes.
He also revealed that Vodafone is collaborating with major stakeholders in road safety management to implement these solutions. He anticipates that these initiatives will help save lives and benefit the economy in the future.
